Day 13 – 13th of January, 2011
No, I don’t mean go fight a shark or join a gang. Everyone has something they are a little scared of doing. My example is I don’t like phone conversations. I don’t know why, but I usually try to avoid answering the phone at work and I also avoid calling up places to do things like arrange appointments. So without further ado…
To Do Something You’d Normally Avoid
- The two benefits I think which are most important is the fact that you become happy after you do it because you’ve achieved something.
- You can also gain a skill out of it, for example, talking on the phone.
How To Do Something You’re Scared Of;
- Well the first thing is to write down what it is that you want to face. An extreme example would be if someone was scared of heights. My brothers friend quite recently who is scared of heights did a bungee jump. Now that’s impressive.
- The next step I guess is to incorporate yesterdays idea of just do it into facing your fear. When that guy bungee jumped, if he was making excuses or said I’ll do it tomorrow, I really don’t think he would have jumped. So you really have to clear your mind and just do it.
What I’m Going To Do;
Well it is convenient that we get a lot of phone calls at my work so tomorrow I’m just going to do it and pick up every single phone call I can. If that involves sprinting up half the shop then I shall do it! And guess what I’ll be thinking when I am running gallantly towards the phone? That’s right! Nothing.
So wish me luck and all the best. Tell me down below what you faced today. It could be a caterpillar, it could be a spider, it could be an escalator but again… no fighting sharks!
